The Lagos State Government has taken another major step towards digitising public service delivery with the signing of a concession agreement with a private firm to automate vehicle registration processes and enhance real-time traffic information for millions of residents.
it stated that the initiative was part of the government’s commitment towards leveraging technology and strategic partnerships to improve governance, enhance residents’ experience and strengthen service delivery across Africa’s largest commercial city.
The concession agreement, according to the government, is expected to modernise operations at the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency, reduce processing time for motorists and improve access to digital government services, while positioning the MyLagosApp as a reliable one-stop platform for traffic information and public service updates.
The agreement covers the Business Process Automation of the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA) and the operation and maintenance of the MyLagosApp, a digital platform designed to provide traffic updates and other essential government information to Lagosians.
The agreement was signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi; the Permanent Secretary of the MVAA, Rasheed Muri-Okunola; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), Bukola Odoe; and representatives of the concessionaires on Friday in Ikeja.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Osiyemi said the initiative marks another milestone in the state’s drive to deploy technology to improve public services, reduce bureaucracy and deliver a more seamless experience for residents.
According to him, the automation project will simplify and accelerate vehicle registration by eliminating cumbersome procedures that often delay service delivery, while improving efficiency and transparency across the system.
He added that the initiative would also strengthen the MyLagosApp by ensuring that residents continue to receive timely traffic updates, travel advisories and other critical information about activities across the state.
The commissioner noted that the digital transformation aligns with the Lagos State Government’s vision of building a smart city where technology drives governance and improves the quality of life for residents.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser on Public-Private Partnerships, Odoe, urged the concessionaires to faithfully implement the terms of the agreement and deliver world-class services that meet the expectations of Lagosians.
She stressed that the success of the partnership would depend on efficient execution and sustained innovation capable of transforming the state’s vehicle administration and digital information systems.
