Democratic strategist James Carville recommended gun control activist David Hogg as a replacement for Democratic National Committee, or DNC, chair Ken Martin, citing organizational dysfunction and financial turmoil.
Speaking from his recovery bed on his podcast, Politicon, Carville said, “If David Hogg wants to take it over, then, I ain’t stopping you, go ahead, man,” according to The Daily Beast.
Carville acknowledged the DNC’s well-documented problems, explaining, “It’s dysfunctional. It’s just difficult to do anything with it. And it’s all true.”
The New York Times reported Sunday, Martin has become increasingly isolated. Its report described a phone-throwing incident with a junior aide that triggered an HR complaint.
The DNC also faces $2 million in debt while vendors have been asked to delay billing until after midterms.
Despite favorable political conditions, internal distrust, a failed 2024 election autopsy, and widening cash gaps with Republicans have raised concerns about Martin’s leadership effectiveness and the party’s organizational viability.
Hogg, 26, became known for surviving the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. Since then, he served as DNC vice chair between February and June 2025, before his election was discarded after a clash over his push to primary incumbent Democrats.
