‘It’s our turn to hit’: US strikes Iran after Trump vows retaliation for missile attack on bases in Jordan
“US forces began launching strikes against Iran at 8 pm ET today. The strikes are a powerful response to yesterday’s attempted Iranian attacks on US forces based in the Middle East,” US CENTCOM wrote in an update on X.
Trump said Iran had fired five rockets overnight, all of which were intercepted and warned the US would hit Iran ‘very hard’.
“We’re gonna be hitting them very hard because it’s our turn to hit them. They know it’s coming,” he told reporters.
“They nevertheless took a shot, so it’s our turn and we’ll see if we get there with an agreement at some point, but we’re going to hit them very hard,” he added, while also claiming Iran was asking the US not to retaliate.
Asked about reports that China could supply Iran with 400 rocket launchers via Pakistan, Trump said he would be surprised if Beijing was involved. “He (Chinese President Xi Jinping) told me very strongly he wouldn’t partake… but he knows I’d be quite disappointed,” Trump said.
