Eligible Nigerians who have not yet obtained their voter cards have another opportunity to register, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a two-week extension for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

Mr. Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, announced this in a statement released on Friday and obtained by Persecondnews.

The extension followed a review of the exercise and feedback received from the commission’s state offices, political parties, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.

The exercise, which was scheduled to end on July 10, will now conclude on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

“The Commission has approved a two-week extension of the exercise. In order to provide additional opportunity for eligible citizens who are yet to register, the Commission has extended the exercise to Sunday, 26th July 2026″, the statement said.

The commission also announced that a self-service online voter registration option for eligible first-time voters will become available from Wednesday, July 8, 2026, through its dedicated CVR portal.

INEC said the platform would enable eligible citizens to initiate and complete their voter registration process, including biometric capture, using their personal devices, while robust identity verification, biometric validation and backend integrity checks would safeguard the credibility and accuracy of the National Register of Voters.

The commission further urged all eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the extended registration period and the new self-service option, reaffirming its commitment to a credible, inclusive and accessible voter registration process driven by technology.

Persecondnews recalls that the nationwide CVR exercise commenced on August 18, 2025, in phases.

Its third phase began on May 11, 2026, and was originally scheduled to end on July 10 before the latest extension to Sunday, July 26, 2026.
