Residents of Ondo community in Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, fled their homes after suspected armed herdsmen invaded the area, shooting sporadically and sending families scrambling for safety.
The attack, which began in the early hours of the day, comes less than 48 hours after suspected armed herdsmen reportedly killed more than 18 people in Otukpo-Nobi community in the same local government area, raising fresh concerns over the worsening security situation in the area.
Labour Party House of Assembly candidate for the 2027 elections, Jimmy Nart, confirmed the attack on Tuesday, saying it was ongoing at the time of filing this report.
“I just received information from my family that Fulani terrorists are currently attacking Ondo, Ugboju. Protect yourself,” he wrote on a message.
As of press time, the number of casualties could not be independently verified, while efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Benue State Police Command were unsuccessful.
Residents described the situation as tense, saying many families had abandoned their homes to escape the attackers.
They appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to protect communities in Otukpo, where repeated attacks have continued to claim lives and displace residents.
