No fewer than three persons have been killed after suspected gunmen attacked Torok community in Rim District of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victims, identified as Ezekiel Zakka, David Yakubu and Dauda Habila, were reportedly shot dead when the assailants stormed the community, opened fire on residents and fled the scene.
The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), which confirmed the attack on Thursday, condemned the killings, describing them as barbaric and unacceptable.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, on behalf of the National President, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, the association extended its condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Torok community and the entire Berom nation.
The group described the attack as yet another painful reminder of the persistent insecurity confronting Berom communities across Plateau State.
It called on security agencies to launch a thorough manhunt for the perpetrators and ensure they are arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The association also urged the Plateau State Government and the Federal Government to move beyond routine condemnations by implementing concrete measures to safeguard vulnerable communities.
It recommended strengthening intelligence gathering, maintaining sustained security deployments in flashpoints and dismantling criminal hideouts used by armed attackers.
BYM further appealed to residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information and continue to act within the law.
Reiterating that every Nigerian has a constitutional right to life and security, the association pledged to continue advocating justice, accountability and lasting peace across Berom communities.
