A gang of kidnappers has kidnapped a school principal and four students while sitting for a National Examination Council, NECO, examination in a secondary school in Kogi State.
The state’s police command held that the gang attacked the school identified as Government Secondary School in Dekina local government and abducted the kidnapees, as well as one NECO ad hoc staff, disrupted the examination proceedings and also caused massive unrest in the area, particularly the parents of the kidnapees who have called on the government to help in the secure and return of their children.
The incident, which happened at about 5:25pm yesterday, was met with a distress call to the police, who immediately launched a search and rescue operation on the assailants, as stated by the command’s spokesperson, Salisu Oyiza.
Oyisa, on Wednesday, said that one of the abducted persons has been rescued and further efforts by the police are ongoing to secure the release of the other victims.
The police figure held that a more detailed press release will be issued as soon as additional verified information becomes available, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Nasiru Kankarofi, and other top security officials in the area have visited the scene for an on-the spot assessment.
She urged the residents to always remain vigilant and report cases of abduction, as part of the necessary acts against conquering terrorism in their respective communities and state at large.
Oyiza reassured them that the police is keen on showing unwavering and indefatigable efforts to ensure the protection of lives and properties and encouraged them to help the security agencies in battling terrorism and other unlawful activities from the area.
