GOVERNOR Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to the payment of N10,000 monthly allowance for corps members serving in the state.
Gov Idris make the announcement on Tuesday during the 2026 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) management/Corps employers’ workshop, held in Birnin Kebbi.
The theme for the workshop is,”fine- tunning stakeholders’ collaboration to enhance Corps members’ welfare and workplace experience.”
The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Sports and Youths Development, Nurudeen Bala-Fingilla, who is also Chairman of NYSC governing board, said that all corps members serving in the state would benefit from the payment.
He said that the payment was to cushion the effects of inflation, noting that Kebbi State remained a home away from home for corps members serving in the state.
The governor urged them to reciprocate the gesture by being diligent, disciplined, hardworking and committed to their various places of primary assignments for the betterment of their host communities.
“As corps members, you are automatically bonafide indigenes of Kebbi and this is a privileged status conferred on you by me as the number one resident and executive governor of the state.
“I always regard you as our strategic partners in the execution of our people oriented policies and programmes,”he said.
Idris, while speaking on the workshop, underscores the responsibility of all stakeholders in ensuring that corps members are not only productively engaged, but also provided with a conducive, safe and supportive environment.
In his remarks, the Director General of NYSC, Brig-Gen. O. Nafiu, represented by the Acting Director, North West, Mrs. Eghieye Mary, explained that the workplace, serve as the primary platform for corps members to acquire practical experience.
He urged corps employers to provide meaningful job assignments relevant to their qualifications and capabilities, as well offer appropriate mentorship, supervision, and opportunities for their professional growth.
Nafiu said that NYSC management appreciates employers, who consistently provide accomodations, transportation support, healthcare services, mentoring and other firms of assistance to corps members.
The director general urged employers to continue to foster workplaces that are respective, supportive, and free from all forms of discrimination, exploitation, harassment and abuse.
The State Coordinator of NYSC in Kebbi, Mr. Bala Dabo-Kagarko, explained that the idea behind the workshop was to exchange ideas, review collective responsibilities, identified challenges and develop strategies for improving the welfare, security and workplace experiences of corps members across the state.
