Former Gombe SDP guber candidate defect to PDP

Former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Gombe State, Kelmi Lazarus, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring support for the party’s governorship candidate, Isa Pantami, ahead of the state’s governorship election.

Lazarus, who contested the 2023 governorship election on the SDP platform, said his decision followed extensive consultations with his political associates, supporters and other stakeholders across the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, he said he was convinced that the PDP offered the most credible platform to advance Gombe State’s development and improve governance.

The former governorship candidate expressed confidence in Pantami’s leadership, competence and vision, describing him as the best candidate to lead the state.

According to Lazarus, Pantami possesses the experience, intellect and commitment needed to address the challenges confronting Gombe State and drive sustainable development across critical sectors.

“Isa Pantami stands out as the most qualified candidate in this race. I therefore call on my supporters and the good people of Gombe State to rally behind the PDP in our collective interest for the progress and prosperity of the state,” he said.

He urged his supporters, party members and residents of the state to join hands with the PDP to secure victory in the election.

Reacting to the defection, the Gombe State chapter of the PDP described Lazarus’ decision as a major boost to the party’s growing support base, expressing confidence that it would strengthen its chances at the polls.
