The Northern Nigeria Christian Youth Association (NNCYA) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Security Adviser (NSA) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), over commendation from United States President Donald Trump recognising Nigeria’s efforts in combating terrorism and protecting vulnerable Christian communities.
The association said the diplomatic recognition reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling insecurity and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens, particularly in Northern Nigeria.
In a statement issued by its National Secretary, Bason Sunday, the NNCYA said President Trump’s acknowledgement of Nigeria’s security achievements was a strong validation of the Tinubu administration’s determination to restore peace and stability across the country.
The group also praised the leadership of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, describing him as the architect of strategic intelligence coordination, proactive conflict resolution and the revitalisation of Nigeria’s security architecture.
Sunday said: “The NNCYA warmly welcomes President Trump’s acknowledgement of the U.S. Nigeria 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap, the deployment of U.S. Special Operations Forces to equip our military, and the successful joint counter-terrorism operations, including the recent neutralisation of top ISIS leadership in the Lake Chad region.
“Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser (NSA), we salute the NSA for his strategic intelligence direction, proactive conflict resolution, and masterminding the robust U.S.-Nigeria Joint Working Group. His efforts have revitalized national security architecture, disrupted terror networks, and restored confidence in state security apparatuses.”
He stresses that these international milestones and operational successes on the ground would not be possible without the visionary coordination and tactical excellence of Nigeria’s security chiefs.
The association equally lauded the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), for what it described as his courageous, inclusive and results-oriented leadership of the armed forces.
Sunday added, “We passionately commend the Minister of Defence for his courageous, inclusive, and results-driven leadership of our armed forces. As a dedicated leader who understands the unique security terrain of Northern Nigeria, Gen. Musa’s steadfast commitment to defending all communities and restoring peace to affected areas remains commendable.
“As faith-based youth leaders committed to peace, security, and national development, the NNCYA urges all Nigerians, regardless of ethnic or religious backgrounds to remain united and support the ongoing peace initiatives.
“President Trump’s commendation proves that President Tinubu’s administration is taking the right, decisive steps to safeguard all Nigerians, particularly Christian communities in the North that have endured heavy burdens. Security is a shared responsibility, and we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our security leadership.”
The association also called on the international community to deepen bilateral cooperation with Nigeria in the areas of defence, intelligence sharing and socio-economic development to strengthen efforts aimed at defeating terrorism and other criminal elements across West Africa.
