Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has approved the recruitment of 6,580 qualified teachers and education support personnel into public primary and junior secondary schools to strengthen the state’s education system and provide adequate staffing for its 267 Smart Green Schools.
The recruitment, as announced by the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), covers academic, technical and administrative positions as part of the state government’s drive to improve learning outcomes and enhance the delivery of quality basic education across the state.
The approval was contained in a job vacancy advertisement issued by the Executive Chairman of ENSUBEB, Hyginus Banko, who said the exercise aligns with the administration’s commitment to equipping public schools with the manpower required to sustain the Smart Green School initiative.
According to the vacancy notice released on Wednesday, the recruitment forms part of the government’s broader education reform agenda aimed at ensuring that schools across the state are adequately staffed with qualified teaching and non-teaching personnel.
“In line with his administration’s commitment to providing the human resources required to drive the Smart Green School initiative and deliver quality education across the state, Governor Peter Mbah has approved the recruitment,” the notice stated.
The board disclosed that the recruitment spans a wide range of academic and specialised positions. Of the total vacancies, 4,698 are for teachers in core subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, Basic Science, Basic Technology, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), French, Igbo Language and History.
In addition to classroom teachers, ENSUBEB is seeking to recruit 520 digital librarians, 380 experiential learning innovators, 267 guidance counsellors, 267 ICT personnel, 267 laboratory attendants, 136 account officers and 45 technicians to support teaching, administration and the effective operation of the Smart Green Schools.
The board outlined the eligibility requirements for applicants, stating that candidates seeking teaching positions must possess either a Bachelor’s degree in Education, a Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), or a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in the relevant subject area.
It added that all teaching applicants must be registered with, or provide proof of ongoing registration with, the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), while candidates applying with a Bachelor’s degree or HND must also present a valid National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge or exemption certificate.
For non-teaching positions, qualification requirements vary according to the role. The board said applicants may be required to possess degrees in specialised fields such as Library and Information Science, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), or Psychology, while some positions require an Ordinary National Diploma (OND), Trade Test Certificate, or SSCE/WASSCE.
ENSUBEB stressed that practical proficiency in Information and Communication Technology tools is mandatory across all categories of employment, reflecting the technology-driven nature of the state’s Smart Green School initiative.
Interested and qualified candidates are required to submit a formal application letter, a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of academic and professional credentials, a birth certificate or sworn affidavit of age, and valid contact details.
Applications may be submitted either in hard copy to the Office of the Executive Chairman of ENSUBEB in Enugu or electronically by compiling all required documents into a single PDF file and forwarding it to [email protected].
The board emphasised that the recruitment exercise is entirely free of charge, warning applicants against paying any individual or organisation for employment processing.
“Application is completely FREE OF CHARGE. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for the screening and selection interview,” the notice added.
Interested applicants have until Friday, August 14, 2026, to submit their applications.
