The Cross River State House of Assembly on Monday confirmed the appointment of Dodeye Arikpo as commissioner and member of the State Executive Council following his screening during plenary.
The confirmation came after lawmakers considered a request forwarded to the Assembly by Governor Bassey Otu seeking legislative approval for Arikpo’s nomination.
During the screening on Monday, the nominee was questioned on his educational background, professional experience, administrative competence and readiness to contribute to governance in the state.
Members of the Assembly commended Arikpo’s credentials and responses during the exercise, expressing confidence in his ability to discharge the responsibilities of the office.
The House subsequently confirmed the nomination through a unanimous voice vote, paving the way for his inauguration into the State Executive Council.
Speaking after the confirmation, the Speaker of the House, Elvert Ayambem, described the appointment as a call to greater responsibility and urged the commissioner-designate to justify the confidence reposed in him by the governor and the people of Cross River State.
Ayambem said, “Your appointment is a call to serve. The expectations of our people are high, and you must approach this responsibility with humility, integrity, and a genuine desire to improve the lives of Cross Riverians. Let every policy you champion and every decision you take reflect the People First vision of His Excellency, Senator Bassey Edet Otu. Work tirelessly to justify the confidence placed in you and contribute your quota to the continued progress and prosperity of our dear state.”
He urged Arikpo to serve with honesty, diligence and a clear sense of purpose while ensuring that the interests of Cross River residents remain at the centre of his stewardship.
