The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the National President of Miyetti Allah Kauta Hore, Bello Bodejo, in the sum of ₦2 billion with two sureties after he pleaded not guilty to money laundering charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court ordered Bodejo to produce two sureties in the like sum of ₦2 billion. One of the sureties must be a resident of Abuja and present three years’ tax clearance, while the other must own landed property valued at ₦2 billion within the Federal Capital Territory.
Justice Inyang Ekwo also directed the Miyetti Allah leader to surrender his international passport to the court registrar and barred him from travelling outside Nigeria without the court’s permission.
Delivering the ruling on Monday, Justice Ekwo held that the offences were bailable and exercised the court’s discretion in Bodejo’s favour.
Earlier, the EFCC had arraigned Bodejo on allegations of money laundering, accusing him of receiving cash payments totalling about $2.63 million outside the banking system, contrary to Nigerian law.
The anti-graft agency further alleged that part of the funds was reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities. However, Bodejo denied all the allegations and pleaded not guilty to every count after the charges were read before the court.
Justice Ekwo subsequently adjourned the case until October 5, 6 and 7, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
