Bukky Wright Explains Why Women Should Have High Standards in Relationships

Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has stirred conversation after defending women who are labelled “gold diggers,” arguing that there is nothing wrong with having high standards in relationships.

Speaking during a recent episode of The Morayo Show, the actress criticised what she described as the double standards often used to judge women who expect financial stability from their partners.

According to Wright, women should not feel embarrassed about seeking partners who can meet their expectations. She maintained that there is nothing wrong with aiming high when choosing a life partner.

“I hate it when I hear men calling women gold diggers. What do you expect her to dig before? I won’t advise any woman to dig anything less than gold,” she said.

The actress also advised men to pursue relationships that match their financial capacity rather than criticising women whose expectations exceed what they can provide.

“If you cannot afford a woman, don’t go for her. Go for the one you can afford,” she added.

Reflecting on her younger years, Wright recalled that many women in her generation preferred not to date men within their age group because they believed older, more financially established partners could offer greater stability.

She further argued that relationships can become difficult when there is a significant gap between a woman’s lifestyle and what her partner can comfortably sustain.

The actress urged people to be realistic about their financial circumstances, saying individuals should “cut their clothes according to their material” when choosing romantic partners.

Her comments have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users agreeing that financial compatibility is an important part of relationships, while others argued that love should not be defined primarily by wealth.
