Big Brother Naija Season 11 housemate, Temi Nkem, became one of the first contestants to trend online after a heated exchange with fellow housemates over her use of English.
The incident occurred on the opening day of the “Show Ya Sef” edition after Big Brother instructed one of the contestants to collect the week’s guidelines from the Diary Room.
Temi Nkem, who reportedly studied in the United Kingdom, volunteered to retrieve the instructions before reading them aloud to the rest of the house.
However, several housemates appeared to struggle to understand her accent and delivery, creating confusion as she attempted to explain the task.
The misunderstanding quickly escalated, prompting Temi Nkem to question why the others could not understand her.
In frustration, she remarked, “Are you children that you don’t understand English? How is it possible that you don’t understand English?”
The exchange immediately generated reactions among viewers on social media, with many debating whether the issue stemmed from her accent, pronunciation or communication style rather than the English language itself.
Some viewers defended the UK-based contestant, arguing that people communicate differently depending on their backgrounds, while others felt she could have slowed down or adjusted her delivery to make herself better understood.
DailyInsightNG report that the incident is one of the earliest talking points of the new BBNaija season, with fans already analysing the personalities and interactions of the housemates.
As the competition progresses, moments such as this are expected to shape relationships inside the house and fuel conversations among viewers throughout the season.
