Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has thrown his weight behind his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, declaring that the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) is fully equipped to lead Nigeria to greater heights if Makinde is elected as president in 2027.
Governor Mohammed made these remarks on Friday in Bauchi while playing host to Makinde, who is the APM’s presidential candidate for the upcoming election.
Mohammed emphasized that the party has developed the necessary capacity to provide high-quality leadership and is steadily establishing itself as a credible force for national development.
During the visit, Governor Mohammed expressed confidence in Makinde’s leadership abilities.
“With him as our presidential candidate working tirelessly, and with the support of the party leadership, APM is well-positioned to take this country to greater heights,” Mohammed said.
He further explained that the party is purposefully repositioning itself to offer viable solutions to the nation’s challenges.
“APM is steadily emerging as Nigeria’s leading opposition party and remains committed to offering constructive alternatives for national development. We have the knowledge, experience and human capital to deliver if given the opportunity.”
The Bauchi governor also noted that the meeting was in line with a long-standing tradition of peer review and strategic collaboration among sub-national leaders to improve governance across states. He expressed deep admiration for the infrastructure drive in Oyo State, noting that he has personally learned a lot from Makinde’s approach to governance, particularly regarding the remarkable transformation of roads and airport facilities.
According to Mohammed, “It is a continuation of our tradition of peer review, where governance is built on collaboration and interaction with colleagues at the sub-national and national levels. This will enable us to exchange ideas and improve service delivery.”
Speaking earlier on the purpose of his visit, Governor Makinde explained that he traveled to Bauchi to consult with Mohammed on pressing national issues, including party matters, widespread insecurity, and the broader future of democracy in Nigeria. He thanked the people of Bauchi State for their exceptionally warm reception and noted that he shares a deep ideological bond with Mohammed.
“When there are issues, before I run to anybody, I will run to someone I know is of the same ideologies as myself, and that is why I came here this afternoon,” Makinde explained. He added that the consultation was highly productive, adding, “I have been fully briefed, and I am taking back ideas that I will try to implement in my state.”
