At least 10 dead, one missing as floods ravage parts of China

At least 10 people have died in severe storms and torrential rain across central and southern China, including eight in Hubei province, as flooding forced thousands to evacuate.

One person remains missing in Hubei following the storm, according to Chinese state media. Further south, flooding triggered by Tropical Storm Maysak killed at least two people in Guangxi province.

Flood warnings were raised to the highest level in eight Guangxi cities on Tuesday, including Nanning and Guilin.
Around 48,000 people have been evacuated across Guangxi, where heavy rain has lashed the regional capital Nanning since July 4. A dam breach at the Liulan reservoir on Monday prompted authorities to raise the city’s flood emergency response to its highest level.

The downpours have also caused power outages affecting more than 59,000 people.

Even more rain is forecast across parts of southern, central and eastern China through Wednesday, with extremely heavy rainfall expected in eastern Guangxi.
