The Nigerian Army has arrested four terrorists during a coordinated intelligence-driven operation aimed at disrupting criminal networks in northwestern Nigeria.
The terrorists have been transferred to military intelligence personnel for detailed interrogation as the military intensifies efforts to identify their associates and dismantle terrorist cells operating across Sokoto.
A military source aware of the arrest described the operation as another step in the ongoing campaign against insurgent and terrorist activities.
He stressed that intelligence-led missions remain central to efforts to restore security in vulnerable communities.
It was gathered on Wednesday that the arrests were made on Monday at about 10:10 a.m. in Ungwan Mailelle village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State after credible intelligence indicated the presence of suspected terrorists in the community.
Upon arrival at the community, troops reportedly surrounded the area before conducting a systematic search, leading to the arrest of four terrorists without any exchange of gunfire or casualties.
“The operation was carefully planned using actionable intelligence, enabling troops to apprehend the suspects without resistance,” the military source said.
Following the operation, the suspects were handed over to the 8 Military Intelligence Battalion (8 MIB), where investigators are expected to conduct further interrogations and other necessary procedures.
The military source added that the arrests underscore the military’s determination to deny terrorist groups safe havens across Sokoto and neighbouring states.
“Our troops will continue to rely on intelligence-driven operations to track down terrorist elements and protect communities from security threats,” the source added.
