The Nigerian Army has arrested 12 terrorists and drug peddlers during intelligence-driven operations targeting criminal networks linked to insurgent activities in Borno state.
The enforcement held by operatives of the HADIN KAI occurred after the troops raided identified terrorists hideouts in the area, leading to recovery of a cache of illicit substances from the terrorists, including cannabis, tramadol and other prohibited drugs believed to have been intended for distribution to insurgent groups.
The military group described the operation in Monguo Local Government Area as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle supply chains that sustain terrorism and other organised crimes.
“The operation reflects our determination to cut off the logistics and criminal networks that enable terrorist activities,” said a military source disclosed on Friday
“Targeting drug trafficking remains a critical part of efforts to weaken insurgent operations.”
He further confirmed that the suspects and all recovered exhibits have been taken into custody for investigation ahead of possible prosecution.
The personnel noted that the latest operation forms part of sustained campaigns against drug trafficking and other illicit activities that provide financial and logistical support to terrorist groups operating across the North-East.
“The military will continue intelligence-based operations to identify, arrest and prosecute individuals involved in terrorism-related crimes and the illegal drug trade,” the personnel added.
