A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Agboola Adegboyega, has called on the ruling party to manage the internal crisis rocking the party across the country, occasioned by its concluded primaries.
He urged the party leadership to look into agitations of party members, especially those with genuine complaints, and ensure that issues are resolved amicably in the interest of the party and not in the interest of some individuals who do not want the party to succeed.
The party stalwart in a statement made available to newsmen, Teusday, advised the leadership to consider complaints from aggrieved members who were dropped from the final list of the candidates submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He said the aftermath of the primaries were still lingering across the entire country, and called for urgent intervention of all stakeholders to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
“There is the urgent need to address grievances arising from the last primaries of our party and take steps to restore confidence among party faithful ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
The party chieftain called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party’s national chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, to look into the allegations of imposition of candidates and backdoors consensus arrangements, arbitrary disqualifications and substitution of duly elected winners of the primaries in many the states.
He frowned at what he described as imposition of unpopular candidates in some states as flag bearers of the party, saying the action may trigger internal disintegration, massive defections, electoral failures and loss of support for APC in the coming general elections.
The APC member alerted that the primary elections in Kwara, Ogun, Ondo among other states across the country, witnessed situations where names of popular candidates and their supporters were removed from the final list submitted to INEC.
