The police have disclosed that it has commenced a manhunt of a fleeing tipper driver who has been accused of crushing a male pedestrian in a devastating auto crash in Anambra State.
The wanted driver was said to have contravened the state’s traffic laws by driving recklessly on one way, and fatally struck the victim, causing his death and fled with the vehicle, as disclosed by the Managing Director of the state’s Traffic Management Agency, Emeka Okonkwo.
Okonkwo, on Thursday, held that following the incident which happened along the Onitsha-Akwa Expressway on July 25, the vehicle was thereafter tracked and intercepted and impounded at Upper Iweka in Onitsha by operatives of the agency and the matter handed over to the police, who have begun search for the suspect, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Director added that stricter measures should be aimed at reckless driving and other acts of violation of traffic laws, urging the public to prioritise safety while driving and in all daily activities.
“A father, a brother and a promising young man, lost his life because a motorist chose to violate traffic regulations instead of driving a short distance to make a lawful turn,” Okonkwo said.
