Ajax have completed the signing of Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan, offering the Nigerian forward a chance to revive his career after a disappointing spell in England.
The Eredivisie club have also secured an option to make the move permanent for €22 million plus performance-related add-ons at the end of the 2026-27 season.
Ajax bet on proven goalscorer
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ajax will pay a loan fee to Wolves and cover Arokodare’s full wages during his stay in Amsterdam.
The agreement also includes a bonus clause that will see Wolves receive an additional £500,000 if Ajax qualify for European competition while the 25-year-old is at the club.
Ajax moved quickly after Fiorentina’s interest cooled, beating competition from the Serie A side, Genoa and Turkish club Trabzonspor to land the striker.
The Dutch giants believe Arokodare’s physical presence, aerial ability and goalscoring record can strengthen their attack as they target domestic success and a return to Europe’s top competitions.
Opportunity to revive career
Arokodare heads to the Netherlands after a difficult campaign with Wolves, where he scored six goals and provided two assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.
The Nigerian found the net only three times in the Premier League as Wolves endured a disappointing season that ended in relegation to the Championship.
Before moving to England, Arokodare had established himself as one of the Belgian Pro League’s top forwards during his time at Genk, scoring 41 goals and registering 12 assists in 113 appearances. He finished the 2024-25 season as the league’s leading scorer with 21 goals.
His career has also included spells at Valmiera in Latvia, FC Köln in Germany and Amiens in France.
