Africa’s Time Is Now: Ibhafidon Wins Global Honour, Urges Massive Investment in Continent

Prince Ero Ibhafidon, founder of Waterlight Africa Investments Ltd, has been honoured with the Global Sustainability Leadership Award 2026 – and is using the platform to call for a surge in sustainable investment across Africa.

The award was presented at the 5th Global Sustainability Summit & Awards, held in the historic House of Lords at the Palace of Westminster, London. The accolade recognises Ibhafidon’s contributions to sustainable development, clean energy, environmental stewardship, humanitarian service and inclusive economic growth across the African continent.

The ceremony also marked the international launch of Waterlight Africa Investments Ltd, a purpose-driven investment and project development firm established to channel global capital into high-impact opportunities throughout Africa.

A ‘beginning, not a destination’

Speaking after the ceremony, Dr Ibhafidon described the recognition as a catalyst for a larger mission: positioning Africa as a premier destination for responsible investment.

“This recognition is not the destination – it is the beginning of a wider mission,” he said. “Africa possesses the world’s youngest workforce, abundant natural resources, extraordinary entrepreneurial talent and one of the fastest-growing consumer markets. Our mission is to transform these advantages into globally competitive investment opportunities that create prosperity, strengthen communities and deliver sustainable returns for investors.”

He issued a direct call to governments, development finance institutions, private investors, multinational corporations and development partners, urging them to increase strategic investments across the continent, which he described as “the world’s next major frontier for sustainable economic growth.”

Strategic focus and the iHEAL Framework

Waterlight Africa Investments Ltd will focus on mobilising investment into critical sectors: renewable energy, clean technology, water infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, artificial intelligence, digital innovation, manufacturing, affordable housing, logistics and youth entrepreneurship.

The company’s investment philosophy marries commercial success with measurable social and environmental impact, ensuring that investments contribute to inclusive growth while delivering competitive returns.

It noted that Africa’s youthful population, expanding urban centres, digital transformation and vast renewable energy resources present significant opportunities for long-term investment.

The company intends to partner with governments, sovereign wealth funds, development finance institutions, pension funds, private equity firms, venture capital investors, multinational companies and philanthropic organisations to develop projects capable of delivering sustainable economic and social value.

Underpinning this is the iHEAL Framework – Innovation, Healthcare, Education, Agriculture and Livelihoods – which guides the company’s operations and promotes investment as a catalyst for economic growth, poverty reduction, resilience and improved quality of life.

A foundation in humanitarian work

The company is rooted in the Waterlight Save Initiative, a United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)-accredited non-governmental organisation committed to improving access to clean water, healthcare, education, renewable energy, humanitarian assistance and sustainable livelihoods.

According to the company, the experience gained through this initiative has enabled it to identify investment opportunities where commercial success aligns with community development and environmental sustainability.

A call to global partners

Following its international launch, Waterlight Africa Investments Ltd invited governments, multilateral institutions, development banks, institutional investors, family offices, corporations, philanthropists and innovators to partner in unlocking Africa’s vast investment potential.

The company said it is committed to building a trusted platform that connects international capital with transformative projects capable of creating long-term value for investors while promoting inclusive economic growth and resilient communities across Africa.

Its long-term vision is to position Africa among the world’s foremost destinations for sustainable development and responsible investment, creating lasting prosperity for communities, investors and future generations.
