ABIA has emerged as Nigeria’s third fastest-improving state in the 2026 Phillips Consulting State Performance Index (pSPI) Momentum Index.
A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, said the ranking reflected the impact of reforms under Gov. Alex Otti’s administration.
According to the report, Abia recorded a momentum score of +0.67, ranking behind Enugu (+1.15) and Jigawa (+0.77).
The state ranked ahead of Osun, Kano, Gombe, Akwa Ibom, Ogun, Lagos, Imo, Anambra and several others.
The Momentum Index measures the rate of improvement by states relative to the national average.
It noted that positive scores indicate faster-than-average progress, while negative scores reflect slower rates of improvement.
Kanu said the ranking showed that Abia’s reforms and development initiatives were producing measurable results.
He attributed the performance to investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, digital innovation, security, agriculture, economic development and public sector reforms.
He added that ongoing projects, including road reconstruction, Smart Schools, revenue reforms, industrial revival, youth empowerment and investment promotion, had strengthened the state’s development profile.
According to him, the ranking also reflects growing confidence in the state’s governance model, anchored on transparency, accountability, prudent resource management and people-centred service delivery.
Kanu said the government remained committed to sustaining the reforms and accelerating programmes that would improve the quality of life of residents.
He described the Phillips Consulting recognition as an independent validation of Abia’s transformation agenda and its emergence as a model of inclusive development and good governance.
