Championship bound Wolvehampton Wanderers have secured the signing of English defender, Kieran Trippier, in preparation for next season.
Wolves disclosed that 35-year-old Trippier, joined the club after penning a two-year contract deal and expected to be at the club till 2030, having left Newcastle in the ongoing summer following the expiration of his contract with the Northwest club.
The Molineux outfit relayed that the defender’s add-on suits its target of an incoming player, adding that his presence and experience would help in its targets in the coming season, which include a swift return back to the Premier League.
”We know what we’ve lacked this year, and we know what we need next year,” said manager, Rob Edwards.
”Experience, leadership, resilient characters and strong characters, that’s what we’re going to need in abundance, and Tripps ticks every box. He wants to help us get promoted again, and this is really something for us to achieve” he added.
Club Chairman, Nathan Shi, said, ”We know the challenge ahead of us in the Championship, but Kieran’s signing shows just how ambitious we want to be.
”We are excited to see him add his professionalism, character and exceptionally high standards to the squad and help drive the football club forward.”
”I am delighted to join Wolves,” Trippier said after the completion of his move on Tuesday.
”A new chapter and one I’m ready for. I’m looking forward to working with the team and giving my all on the pitch.
”I can’t wait to meet with the fans and play at the Molineux.”
On his departure from Newcastle where he made over 118 appearances and scored four goals, the player said, ”The time came to leave the amazing club after four-and-half-years.
”I’m really going to miss it.”
His career thus far has spanned through England and Spain, more of the former, where he played for Barnsley in 2010, Burnley, Tottenham, Atletico Madrid and Newcastle.
