The family of late retired Major General Rabe Abubakar has vowed not to forgive those responsible for his abduction and eventual death in the custody of bandits.
The declaration was made by the deceased’s son, Isyaka Rabe-Abubakar, during an interaction with journalists in Katsina on Sunday.
According to him, the family has accepted the tragic incident as the will of God, but insisted that those behind the attack must face the consequences of their actions.
“We will not forgive those behind this act,” he declared.
He added, “We believe what happened to our father was destined by Allah. We believe he died a martyr and will be granted a place in Paradise.”
The late military officer, who once served as Director of Defence Information, was abducted alongside his wife on May 30 while travelling along the Matazu-Katsina Road. The Katsina State Government later confirmed his death, while his wife is still being held by the kidnappers.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Isyaka described his father as a disciplined soldier, a mentor and a deeply religious man whose simple lifestyle often concealed his achievements in the military.
According to him, the retired general was known for his humility and willingness to guide younger people.
“If you did not know him, when you saw him, you will never know who he was. He was humble, peaceful and always willing to guide others,” he said.
He noted that the family has continued to rely on faith despite the painful loss, adding that they are praying for the safe return of his mother, who remains in captivity.
On how the remains of the retired officer were recovered, Isyaka said only the authorities could provide a full account of what happened. He also stated that the family was uncertain about the exact cause of death.
“Some people said it was a snake bite, while others mentioned tetanus. Only Allah knows the exact cause of his death,” he said.
