In a post on “X”, the US Central Command wrote that the “additional self-defence strikes” were launched at 5:15 PM New York time in response to Iran’s “unwarranted and continued aggression.”
Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, citing a military source before the attack, reported that the country’s armed forces were fully prepared for fresh attacks and had the ability to strike additional American targets.
The Central Command has not specified the targets that it is attacking in its post. However, Barak Ravid of Axios cited an unnamed US official in his post, outlining targets for the strikes, including Air defence systems, radars and drone command and control units. Iran’s foreign ministry has accused the US of hitting civilian infra in strikes earlier this week.
While signing the Secure America Act, Trump told reporters that “we hit them hard yesterday, and we’re going to hit them hard again today,” adding that Iran should sign the agreement that the US believes is “meaningful and works.”
Iran’s head of national security commission in the parliament Ebrahim Azizi wrote on “X” that this time the “war will not be limited to the region.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Trump had written on Truth Social that the Iran military is a complete and total mess and that their Navy and Air Force does not even exist anymore. “Iran is all talk no action,” Trump wrote, further stating that they had taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been good for them and they will now pay the price for it.
Crude oil prices have risen after the US launched fresh attacks with the West Texas Intermediate climbing close to 3% towards the $93 a barrel mark. Brent ended the session around $93 a barrel as well.
