The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) in collaboration with Adamawa state government through the Netherlands Government funded ASWA 111 project have trained school pupils, teachers, tailors and some stakeholders on menstrual hygiene management.
The beneficiaries were trained on menstrual Health hygiene management, production of re- usable menstruation pads among other issues surrounding menstrual hygiene aimed at tackling the challenges faced by female pupils due to menstrual issues which keep them out of school thus affecting their academic performance.
A visit by a team of journalists to Pilot Primary School Kiri, Shelleng local government area, one of the benefiting school and community, speaks volumes on how the training continued to impact on the people and the community especially in the areas of tackling the challenges of absentees among female pupils and stigmatisation with men now emerging as dignity champions.
Shedding more light on the training, WASH coordinator, Shelleng local government, Mr.Gideon Emmanuel, said the training have break the social stigma and foster more corporations between the teachers and the pupils, as well as between male and female pupils who are now working on the same page to support each other during this periods unlike in the past where female pupils on menstruation are being avoided or segregated.
