The UK Metropolitan Police has launched a manhunt to trace and apprehend a 25-year-old Nigerian inmate, Temitope Segun, who escaped from a prison transport van in London.
The operation, which involves intensified patrols and coordinated search efforts, followed Segun’s escape during routine prisoner transport in Woolwich High Street, southeast London.
Authorities said the suspect has known links to Woolwich, Plumstead, and Abbey Wood, and have released his photograph to assist members of the public in identifying him and supporting the ongoing search.
Leading the operation, Detective Sergeant Claudine Manning said officers were working around the clock to locate and rearrest the escapee, stressing that public assistance was crucial to the investigation.
“My team of dedicated officers are working around the clock to trace and apprehend Temitope Segun. It is imperative that the public contact police via 999 if they see him or know where he may be,” she said.
She added that Segun was last seen wearing a black jacket, black trousers, and black trainers, noting that he is believed to have strong links across south London.
The police also urged anyone with useful information to quote reference number 2270/10JUN when contacting authorities, as the manhunt continues across south London communities.
