Authorities in the United States have arrested two suspects following the theft of equipment belonging to England’s national football team while it was being transported to the squad’s FIFA World Cup 2026 base camp in Kansas City.
The incident occurred during the shipment of training and support equipment from England’s pre-tournament camp in West Palm Beach, Florida, to its World Cup headquarters at Swope Soccer Village in Missouri.
According to reports, members of the England delegation discovered that items were missing when the vehicle arrived at its destination, prompting an immediate investigation involving local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Among the items initially reported missing were customized football boots, training equipment, match balls, tactical materials and medical support gear used by the team’s coaching and performance staff.
The theft raised concerns within the England camp just days before the Three Lions begin their World Cup campaign under head coach Thomas Tuchel.
However, authorities later confirmed that the stolen items were successfully recovered and that two suspects had been taken into custody in connection with the case.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas said law enforcement agencies worked swiftly to track down those involved and recover the equipment before it could affect the team’s tournament preparations.
“Public safety officials at the local, state and federal levels worked together to identify those responsible and recover the missing items,” he said.
The Football Association (FA) acknowledged the incident but declined to provide further details, citing the ongoing criminal investigation.
A spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department confirmed that officers were investigating the theft and that two individuals had been detained as part of the inquiry.
“We are investigating a reported theft involving equipment from a team vehicle. The investigation remains active, and two individuals are currently in custody,” police said.
Despite the off-field disruption, England’s preparations for the tournament remain unaffected.
The squad arrived in the Kansas City area on Saturday and is scheduled to hold its first official training session at Swope Soccer Village as preparations continue for its opening Group L fixture against Croatia.
England will face Croatia on June 17 before taking on Ghana and completing its group-stage campaign later in the tournament.
The swift recovery of the stolen equipment is expected to ensure that Tuchel’s squad enters the competition without any logistical setbacks as the Three Lions pursue their first World Cup title since 1966.
