Trump says Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to stop shooting, downplays Iran talks

US President Donald Trump said that he held a “very productive” call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and stated that there will be no troops going to Beirut, adding that any troops that were on their way have already been turned back.

In a social media post, he further said that, through “highly placed representatives,” he had a separate conversation with Hezbollah and claimed both sides agreed that all shooting will stop.

According to Trump, Israel will not attack Hezbollah and Hezbollah will not attack Israel under this understanding.

The recent development came just hours after Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said the ceasefire between Iran and the United States applies to all fronts, including Lebanon.

In a statement on X, Araghchi had said any violation on one front would constitute a violation of the ceasefire on all fronts.

Trump’s mixed signals on Iran talks

In a seperate social media post Trump said that talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran are “continuing, at a rapid pace.”

However, earlier CNBC reported, Trump said, “I don’t care if they’re over, honestly. I really don’t care. I couldn’t care less,” adding that the prolonged talks “started to get very boring.”

While in an interview to NBC News he said that he had not heard reports that Iran was suspending talks with the United States and said he did not know if it was true.

He added that if it were accurate, “it’ll be a good thing,” arguing that the talks had gone on for too long and that the U.S. had been “talking a lot, perhaps too much.”

Trump said the situation did not mean the US would escalate militarily, stating, “we’re not going to start dropping bombs,” and suggested a period of silence in negotiations “could be a long time.”

He further said the US would continue maintaining the blockade, adding that Iran was “losing a fortune” under the current situation.

The comments came amid heightened tensions in the region involving Iran, Israel and Lebanon.
