Troops, TANTITA Recover 24,000 Litres of Illegal Oil in Rivers

Troops of Sector 3, Operation DELTA SAFE, in collaboration with TANTITA Security Services, have intercepted a wooden boat loaded with illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in Abalama Creek, Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The operation, carried out at about 19:20 hours on June 15, followed credible intelligence on the movement of stolen petroleum products through waterways in the area.

Security sources confirmed that operatives discovered a wooden boat conveying an estimated 24,000 litres of illegally refined AGO. However, no arrests were made as the suspected operators abandoned the vessel and fled upon sighting the advancing security team.

The recovered boat and its contents were subsequently moved to the TANTITA Security Services base at Ilamatoru for documentation, investigation and further action.

Authorities said follow-up operations are ongoing in the creek and adjoining waterways to track down the fleeing suspects and dismantle associated illegal refining and oil theft networks operating within the region.
