Three policemen die detonating bomb in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the death of three officers who were killed while attempting to detonate an improvised explosive device (IED) during an operation to safeguard residents along Bagega Road in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The deceased officers were identified as Superintendent of Police Abdulrazak Hassan, Officer-in-Charge of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, and Inspectors Auwal Ahmad and Murtala Musa.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Zamfara State, Yazid Abubakar, said the officers were members of the Command’s EOD unit and lost their lives while carrying out a high-risk operation to neutralise a suspected bomb allegedly planted by bandits.

According to the statement, the officers were working to secure the area and prevent potential casualties when the device detonated, resulting in their deaths.

Abubakar described the fallen officers as dedicated and courageous professionals who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

“The Command mourns the loss of these brave officers whose commitment to protecting lives and property remained unwavering,” he said.

He noted that the officers demonstrated exceptional bravery, professionalism and dedication throughout their service, adding that their sacrifice underscored their commitment to national security and public safety.

The spokesperson said the incident represents a significant loss to the Command and the wider law enforcement community.

He further conveyed the Command’s condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased officers.

“Their courage, patriotism and selfless service will never be forgotten. Their legacy will continue to inspire officers committed to ensuring the safety and security of our communities,” the statement added.

Despite the tragic loss, the Zamfara State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating insecurity across the state while honouring the memory of the officers who lost their lives in the operation.
