“They are not asking for Sharia law or money” – Kidnapped Oyo principal cries out from captivity
A new video reportedly released by terrorists holding abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State shows the school principal, Mrs. Alamu, making a fresh appeal and dismissing circulating claims about the abductors’ demands.
In the video, the school principal said reports circulating on media that the kidnappers demanded money, the implementation of Sharia law, or weapons were false.
“Don’t Make Our Problem More Complicated” – Principal
Speaking in the emotional clip, Mrs. Alamu said false information is making their situation worse.
“Pls I want to make some clarifications. Today makes it the 24th day that we have been in this place and it seems that some people are making our problems to be complicated already,” she said.
She explained that they were shown media reports claiming the abductors had made several demands, including ransom and Sharia-related conditions, but insisted this was not true.
“We were shown some print media where it was stated that these people that abducted us requested for their release. They said they requested for a billionaire naira. They requested for Sharia to be entrenched in the country. These are not true. They are just trying to create problems for us,” she added.
“They Are Not Asking for Sharia or Money”
Mrs. Alamu further stated that the abductors had not forced them into any religious practice and had not made demands related to money or Sharia law.
“We have been here since we have not been forced to worship in Islamic way. They have not troubled us concerning that. They are not asking for Sharia law. They are not asking for money. The single thing they are asking for is the release of some of their people,” she said. “I don’t know why they are playing politics with our lives. Nigerians, please help us to circulate this. Let it go viral.”
“Only Demand Is Release of Their Members”
In the video, she repeatedly stressed that the abductors’ sole demand was the release of some detained members, which she said should be handled through negotiation.
“All they want is the release of some of their people. The government will negotiate with them and know those that they will release for them,” she said.
Conflicting Reports on Demands
The video comes amid earlier reports claiming that the abductors were demanding ransom, vehicles, and the implementation of Sharia law before releasing the victims.
