A gang of terrorists have attacked a community in Kaduna State and abducted six Al-majiri children in the area.
The gunmen invaded the community and intercepted the abductees while they were returning to their community from a farm after which they were whisked away from the area.
The abductees, Abdul Malam, Al Amin Biyar, Abdurrahman Ila, Jamilu Malam, Usumanu Bilya and Abdul Samaila were heading home after working on a nearby farm when the terrorists struck and forcefully took them away from the Unguwar Gere community, located in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, where the incident happened yesterday.
According to the community members, the attackers invaded the area at about 6:30 p.m. and targeted the children as they approached the village after returning from farm work.
A resident familiar with the incident said on Thursday that the children were only a short distance from their destination when the attackers emerged and seized them.
“The pupils were almost back in the village when the terrorists intercepted them and whisked them away.
“The entire community has been thrown into anxiety since the incident,” the source said.
Meanwhile, following the abduction, residents from surrounding communities joined forces with military personnel in an attempt to rescue the children.
The joint response reportedly forced the attackers to withdraw from the area after a confrontation.
However, despite the pressure mounted by the combined team, the terrorists managed to flee with the six children and disappeared into a nearby forest.
Residents credited soldiers stationed at the Supa Camp in Kuyallo for responding swiftly to distress calls and supporting local volunteers during the rescue effort.
“We were able to repel the attackers from the community, but unfortunately, they escaped with the children. Search operations are continuing,” A resident said.
As of the time of filing this report, police authorities had not released an official statement regarding the abduction.
