Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, performed at the opening ceremony of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.
The singer was among several international artists who featured at the high-profile event, which celebrated the dedication of the centre ahead of its public opening.
The ceremony attracted music stars, political figures and guests from different parts of the world.
Star-studded lineup welcomes Tems
Tems performed alongside renowned artists including Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, Christina Aguilera, Common, Bono and The Edge, Marc Anthony and The Roots.
The audience responded with applause and standing ovations throughout the programme.
Former United States President Barack Obama attended the event alongside members of his family, including his daughters Malia and Sasha Obama.
Singer speaks about nervous moment
Before taking the stage, Tems addressed the audience while wearing a red gown, expressing her excitement and gratitude for being part of the occasion.
However, the Nigerian singer later revealed that she felt nervous during her appearance after making a mistake while mentioning Obama’s daughters.
She shared her reaction online, admitting that she was anxious during the moment.
Despite the slip, Tems received positive reactions for her performance at the globally recognised event.
Obama Presidential Center opens to public
The dedication ceremony marked the beginning of a series of activities connected to the opening of the Obama Presidential Center.
The programme includes community events following the official public opening.
The event also features Nigerian representation through a displayed artwork by Nigerian-born artist Njideka Akunyili Crosby.
