Six Kaduna students, three others regain freedom from bandits

The six Kaduna students, alongside a driver and two other adults abducted by armed men along the Akwando-Kachia Road in Kaduna State on April 26, 2026, have regained their freedom.

The victims were among nine passengers taken during the attack, which also claimed the life of a young girl when armed bandits intercepted the vehicle.

They were said to have spent 36 days in captivity before being released by their abductors.

The spokesman of the Kuturmi Unity Development Association, Manasseh Samuel, confirmed their release on Tuesday, adding that they trekked for about six hours through the bush before finally returning home.

Samuel expressed appreciation to individuals and groups who supported efforts and offered prayers during the period of captivity.

Similarly, a former media aide to the late Kaduna State governor, Patrick Yakowa, Reuben Buhari, also confirmed the development in a Facebook post.

He stated that the victims regained their freedom and arrived home on Sunday night after trekking through the bush for several hours.

Buhari noted the traumatic experience endured by the victims and lamented the loss of an entire academic term during their period in captivity.

He called for continued prayers for other residents still in captivity, particularly victims abducted from Awon and Ariko villages.

He also expressed gratitude to those who contributed in various ways toward securing the release of the nine victims.
