A lawmaker at the Federal House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, has resigned from his position as minority leader of the legislative House.
Chinda, in a penned letter, announced his withdrawal from the position stating that the development takes immediate effect in a decision which marks a significant shift in the leadership of the minority caucus.
The letter was read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during Tuesday’s plenary session, reads, “It has been a profound honour and privilege to serve in this capacity, representing the collective interest of the minority caucus and contributing to the legislative work of the house.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to work under your leadership and alongside distinguished colleagues in advancing democratic governance and national development.”
Chinda, who represents Obio/Akpor federal constituency of Rivers State, said he remains fully committed to his duties as a lawmaker and will continue to support the work of the legislature in every way possible.
On May 21, Chinda, was elected as the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections.
His emergence stirred controversy after he appeared before the APC screening panel without formally announcing his defection.
A faction of the APC in Rivers, led by Emeka Beke, has since declared Chinda’s election null and void, raising further questions about his political future and the unfolding dynamics within the party.
