SENATOR Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady of Nigeria, on Wednesday inaugurated the Tinubu Torchbearers, TTB, a grassroots mobilisation platform within the All Progressives Congress, APC.
TTB is aimed at advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda, increasing women’s participation in governance, and strengthening support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The event monitored by Realnews on Arise TV brought together APC women leaders, political stakeholders, and grassroots mobilisers from across the country.
Addressing participants, the First Lady described women as the backbone of community mobilisation and urged members of the Tinubu Torchbearers to serve as ambassadors of the Renewed Hope Agenda by communicating the achievements and reforms of the Tinubu administration responsibly and effectively at the grassroots level.
She said the government’s reforms in agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, and job creation require greater public awareness and community engagement to ensure their impact is felt across the country.
According to her, sustainable development can only be achieved through the active participation and cooperation of citizens.
She also noted that the APC has demonstrated that politics can be practised without bitterness, citing the peaceful conduct of recent party primaries as evidence of the party’s internal stability.
A major highlight of the event was her announcement that APC women leaders in states where the party is not in power but maintains a strong presence, including Abia, Anambra, Bauchi, Osun, and Oyo states will receive vehicles to support their grassroots activities. She stressed that the vehicles would be registered in the recipients’ names and not as party property.
“This is a blessed party, and we want our women to be empowered,” she said.
At the event, Mary Alile Idele, APC national women leader, said the initiative would strengthen mobilisation efforts across the nations 774 local government areas through advocacy, voter education, and civic engagement.
Also, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, minister of Women Affairs, highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at improving child protection, ending child marriage, and expanding women’s economic empowerment, while revealing that a proposed universal cash grant for children is currently under technical development.
Similarly, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, national chairman, APC, who was represented by Benjamin Nwoye, deputy national chairman (South), described the Tinubu Torchbearers as a strategic platform for deepening grassroots support for the administration’s policies and programmes.
