The Niger State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that hoodlums attacked schools in Bosso, Kpakungu, Sabon-Wuse and Lambata areas of the state, describing the claims as false and misleading.
The command said officers were immediately deployed to all the affected schools, where they conducted on-the-spot assessments and confirmed that no such attack took place in any of the institutions.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, urged members of the public to disregard the report, which he said was designed to create panic and spread fear among residents and school communities.
He added that preliminary findings suggested the report may have been circulated by mischief makers seeking to spread misinformation and cause unnecessary alarm in the state.
According to him, intelligence-led investigations have already commenced to trace the source of the false report, identify those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice.
The statement noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Elleman, had earlier directed Divisional Police Officers across the state to strengthen collaboration with school authorities as part of ongoing school protection efforts.
It further stated that police visibility patrols have been intensified around schools across the state to enhance the safety and security of students, staff, and surrounding communities.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding educational institutions and maintaining peace and order throughout Niger State.
