Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerian youths to become more actively involved in shaping the nation’s future, warning against what he described as growing acceptance of insecurity and repeated school abductions.
In a statement shared on his verified X account, Obi expressed concern over the persistent security challenges facing the country and urged young Nigerians not to become indifferent to developments affecting their future.
Obi Reflects on School Abductions
The former Anambra governor referenced the 2014 Chibok schoolgirls’ abduction, noting that the incident united Nigerians and attracted global attention through the #BringBackOurGirls campaign.
According to him, subsequent school kidnappings have not generated the same level of national outrage despite their frequency.
Obi argued that the increasing number of such incidents should remain a major concern for citizens and policymakers alike.
Call for Youth Participation
Obi urged Nigerian youths to play a more active role in demanding accountability and positive change.
He stressed that citizens should resist becoming accustomed to insecurity and governance challenges, insisting that public engagement remains critical to national development.
The former presidential candidate also questioned whether repeated security incidents have gradually become normalised in public discourse.
Concern Over National Priorities
The politician further expressed concern that political activities ahead of future elections appear to be receiving more attention than urgent issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.
According to him, insecurity, poverty and economic hardship remain pressing concerns that require sustained focus and action from leaders.
