The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reshuffled his cabinet and sworn in a new Head of Service and two commissioners, charging members of the reconstituted executive council to demonstrate greater commitment to service delivery and governance as the state grapples with security challenges.
The governor said the appointments and redeployments were aimed at strengthening government performance and accelerating the delivery of his administration’s promises to the people of Oyo State.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Agodi, Ibadan, on Monday, witnessed the inauguration of Dr Adenike Fasinna as Head of Service, Dr Idowu Oyeleke as Commissioner for Special Duties, and Barrister Ayobami Ojo as Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.
The Oath of Office and Oath of Allegiance were administered by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet and Special Services.
Speaking shortly after the ceremony, Makinde described the appointments as a reflection of merit, inclusivity, and equitable representation, urging the newly sworn-in officials to justify the confidence reposed in them through hard work and dedication.
According to the governor, the changes are intended to strengthen governance structures and improve service delivery across ministries, departments, and agencies.
He noted that Dr Fasinna’s appointment as Head of Service comes at a critical time when the state public service requires strong leadership to drive efficiency and implement government policies effectively.
Makinde also assigned Dr Oyeleke to oversee the Ministry of Special Duties, where he is expected to coordinate emergency response and other strategic interventions, while Barrister Ojo will head the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning with responsibility for fiscal planning and development initiatives.
As part of the cabinet reshuffle, Fausat Joke Sanni, who previously served as Commissioner for Special Duties, was redeployed to the Ministry of Investment, Trade, Cooperatives, and Industry.
The governor said the redeployment was designed to bolster efforts aimed at attracting investments, promoting commerce, and stimulating economic growth across the state.
Makinde used the occasion to address the security situation in the state, expressing concern over the recent abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
He assured residents that the state government was working closely with security agencies to secure the safe release of the victims and bring those responsible to justice.
“We remain committed to protecting lives and property across Oyo State. Our security agencies are fully engaged, and we are doing everything possible to ensure the safe return of those affected,” the governor said.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives by promptly reporting suspicious movements and activities within their communities.
Makinde also encouraged members of the public to make use of the state’s toll-free emergency number, 615, to report security incidents and obtain rapid assistance.
The governor stressed that security remains a top priority of his administration, adding that the reshuffled cabinet must focus on achieving measurable results in all sectors.
He charged the newly appointed officials to see their positions as opportunities for service rather than privilege, noting that the expectations of the people remain high.
“The people of Oyo State expect results, and every member of this administration must remain focused on delivering good governance and improving the welfare of our citizens,” he said.
