Ekiti State Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed optimism that he will surpass the 500,000-vote target set by his party in the state’s governorship election.
Oyebanji made the statement after voting at Ward 06, Unit 03, Okelele, Ikogosi Ekiti, alongside his wife, Olayemi.
The governor also praised the turnout of voters, saying the participation showed that residents understand the importance of choosing leaders who shape the future of the state.
Governor speaks on APC vote target
Responding to questions about whether the APC could achieve its planned 500,000 votes, Oyebanji said the target was possible if the electoral process remained smooth and citizens participated.
He said the focus was on ensuring that eligible voters were able to exercise their rights.
The APC had earlier during its campaign stated that it aimed to win the election while working towards securing at least 500,000 votes for the governor.
Oyebanji urges patience with INEC
Speaking on the conduct of the election, the governor said the process was progressing well but appealed to voters to remain patient with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He acknowledged that challenges could occur during elections but expressed confidence that INEC would resolve any issues.
Oyebanji said the commission had assured him that no voter would be prevented from participating.
He also urged residents to cooperate with electoral officials as the process continued.
