The Ondo State Police Command has debunked rumours circulating in parts of Akure and on social media alleging the presence of bandits in the state capital.
The command assured residents that there is no credible intelligence, verified report, or operational indication from any of its security formations to support the claims of a bandit invasion in Akure.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said comprehensive security assessments and intelligence gathering have not indicated any threat capable of causing panic, urging residents to go about their normal activities without fear.
“The Command wishes to assure residents, particularly parents, students, school authorities and the general public, that there is no credible intelligence or reported incident indicating the presence or invasion of bandits in Akure,” the statement read.
The command further stated that adequate security measures have been deployed across the state to safeguard lives and property, while warning against the spread of false information capable of causing public panic.
Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, cautioned that individuals responsible for disseminating misinformation intended to incite fear or disorder would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Residents were advised to remain vigilant and continue to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
The command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of all citizens and urged the public to rely only on verified information from official sources.
