THE Wife of the Anambra State Governor and founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo has announced plans to launch a Healthy Living HIV Control Initiative aimed at strengthening HIV prevention, awareness, testing, stigma reduction and care support across Anambra State.
The announcement was made on June 5 during a high-level advocacy visit by the Executive Director of the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA), Dr. Nkem Okeke and members of his management team during which the agency formally presented its State Strategic Transformation and Sustainability Plan (SSTSP) for 2026–2028.
While presenting the strategic plan, Dr. Okeke outlined its vision, strategic priorities and implementation framework designed to accelerate progress toward achieving an AIDS-free Anambra State, briefing the First Lady on key milestones recorded within his first month in office, highlighting achievements in HIV prevention and testing, stakeholder engagement, advocacy initiatives and community-based interventions across the state.
Dr. Okeke commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his steadfast support and commitment to healthcare development, noting that the administration’s investments in human capital development and health infrastructure have strengthened the foundation for a more effective and sustainable HIV response.
According to him, the governor’s efforts are closely aligned with the state’s transformation agenda and broader vision of fostering a healthier and more prosperous society.
In her remarks, Dr. Mrs. Soludo reaffirmed her commitment to supporting ANSACA’s programmes through the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, disclosing that HIV prevention, public awareness, testing, stigma reduction and care support would be integrated into the initiative’s activities as part of efforts to enhance the state’s HIV response.
She further said that the initiative would complement existing interventions aimed at achieving Zero New HIV Infections in Anambra State by 2030, in line with the global targets established by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).
The First Lady expressed confidence in the leadership of Dr. Okeke and the ANSACA team, commending the agency’s strategic focus and the progress recorded within a relatively short period.
Members of the ANSACA management team, in turn, praised Dr. Mrs. Soludo for her compassion, dedication to public service and unwavering commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of Ndi Anambra.
During the visit, Dr. Okeke provided an update on a toddler previously diagnosed with Advanced HIV Disease (AHD), whose case had attracted the intervention of the First Lady, reporting that the child has made significant progress following sustained medical treatment and support facilitated through her intervention and is currently being prepared for transition to an orphanage home.
The visit underscored the growing collaboration between ANSACA and the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, reinforcing Anambra State’s commitment to eliminating new HIV infections, reducing stigma and improving health outcomes for its residents.
