Nigeria, UAE Customs Intercept Tramadol Shipment at Lagos Airport, Hand Over Consignment to NDLEA
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), in collaboration with international partners, has foiled an attempt to smuggle a large consignment of Tap Tramadol 250mg through the Murtala Muhammed Area Command (MMAC), reinforcing ongoing efforts to curb the trafficking of controlled substances into the country.
The intercepted shipment was formally handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on June 11, 2026, for further investigation and necessary action.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Customs Area Controller of the Murtala Muhammed Area Command, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, said the successful operation underscored the Service’s commitment to combating the illicit movement of drugs that pose significant threats to public health and national security.
Otunla commended officers of the Special WILD Office of the NCS Intelligence Unit for their professionalism and prompt intelligence gathering, which he said was crucial to the successful interception of the consignment.
He also praised the dedication and teamwork demonstrated by officers and personnel involved in the operation.
The Customs Area Controller acknowledged the technical support and cooperation provided by the United Arab Emirates Customs, noting that the partnership played a pivotal role in identifying and intercepting the illegal shipment.
According to him, the development highlights the growing importance of international collaboration in tackling transnational organised crime and strengthening border security.
Otunla reiterated the NCS’s commitment to enhancing intelligence-driven operations and deepening collaboration with relevant agencies to safeguard the country against illicit trade and criminal activities.
The interception and subsequent handover of the tramadol consignment to the NDLEA form part of ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities to disrupt drug trafficking networks and strengthen national security through coordinated enforcement actions.
