NDC Primary Results Delay Sparks Anxiety as Aspirants Demand Transparency Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is facing mounting pressure from aspirants and party supporters following the delay in announcing the official results of its nationwide primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The prolonged wait has fueled speculation across several states, with stakeholders demanding clarity on the outcome of the exercise.

Although the party conducted primaries nationwide and later convened a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to review the process, official results have yet to be fully released.

The NDC leadership has urged members to disregard unofficial results circulating online, insisting that only the NEC is authorized to announce final outcomes.

However, the delay has left many aspirants uncertain about their political future.

Aspirants Express Concerns

Several aspirants are reportedly waiting in Abuja for updates from the party’s leadership.

One of the aspirants, Chinedu Raymond Obue, who contested for a state assembly ticket in Anambra State, called on the party to uphold what he described as the wishes of party members.

According to him, the primary election was conducted transparently and should not be altered through any post-election process.

He warned that any attempt to overturn results could damage trust in the party’s democratic principles.

Party Members Warn of Internal Crisis

Some party officials have alleged that behind-the-scenes political maneuvering may be contributing to the delay.

Critics argue that introducing additional selection processes after primaries have been concluded could create disputes and trigger legal battles.

They insist that candidates who emerged through the electoral process should be recognized without further interference.

Enugu Governorship Aspirant Remains Confident

Meanwhile, Enugu governorship aspirant Prof. James Ene-Nwannaji has dismissed concerns that the outcome of his primary election could be altered.

He stated that the process was conducted across all local government areas in accordance with electoral regulations and monitored by relevant authorities.

According to him, there is no indication that the result will change once the party concludes its review.

Pressure Mounts on NDC Leadership

As anticipation continues to grow, political analysts say the NDC faces a critical test of its internal democracy.

Many supporters believe the party’s handling of the primary results could influence public confidence as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
