The family of late Nollywood actor and comedian John Ikechukwu Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has opened up about the challenges they have experienced since his death.
The family revealed that they have faced financial difficulties, affecting basic needs and the education of the actor’s children.
They shared their situation during a recent visit by content creator King Mitchy.
Children reportedly stop schooling
According to the family, Mr Ibu’s daughter and two sons have been unable to continue their education because of financial challenges.
The children’s mother explained that meeting household expenses has become difficult since the actor’s death.
She also said the family has struggled with electricity and water supply after being unable to settle some bills.
Family appeals for support
Mr Ibu’s daughter expressed appreciation for her mother’s efforts in caring for the family despite the difficulties.
She appealed to Nigerians and people who worked with her father in the entertainment industry to support them during the difficult period.
The family said they are trying to cope while dealing with the loss of the actor.
Mr Ibu’s health battle before death
Mr Ibu suffered serious health challenges before his death.
In November 2023, the actor underwent a leg amputation after an illness that required multiple surgeries.
He later died in Lagos on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62 after suffering cardiac arrest.
The actor was widely remembered for his contribution to Nigerian comedy and Nollywood, where he became one of the industry’s most recognisable faces.
