The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the death of a commercial bus driver following a multiple-vehicle collision at Cele, inward Oshodi, Lagos.
The accident involved a commercial minibus, popularly known as “Korokpe,” and a Toyota Tundra pickup truck.
According to reports, the yet-to-be-identified driver died at the scene as a result of severe injuries sustained from the impact of the crash.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday, LASTMA noted that its operatives, who were on routine traffic monitoring duty at the time, swiftly responded to the incident.
According to the traffic agency, upon arrival, they coordinated emergency response efforts, secured the accident scene, and worked to restore normal traffic flow along the busy corridor.
It added that officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Cele-Ijesha Division were also at the scene and assisted in the recovery of the remains, which were later released to the family.
LASTMA further confirmed that the wreckage and vehicles involved were promptly cleared from the roadway and handed over to the police for further investigation.
The agency noted that the swift intervention helped prevent prolonged traffic disruption and ensured the quick restoration of free vehicular movement.
Meanwhile, the General Manager of LASTMA extended condolences to the bereaved family and urged motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to exercise greater caution on the roads.
He also advised road users to strictly comply with traffic regulations and adopt safer driving practices in order to prevent future tragedies.
