Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have recorded fresh successes in ongoing counterterrorism operations in the North-East, arresting a suspected Boko Haram informant in Adamawa State while military air assets destroyed multiple terrorist vehicles and neutralised scores of fighters during coordinated air interdiction missions in Borno State.
Military sources disclosed that the arrest occurred at about 4:00 p.m. on June 6 during a routine market patrol in Madagali town, Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The suspect, identified as Mohammed Hamadu, 18, was apprehended by troops of the 144 Task Force Battalion (Mechanised) following credible intelligence linking him to alleged terrorist support activities within the area.
According to the sources, the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to identify and dismantle intelligence, logistics and support networks used by insurgent groups operating across the North-East.
“Acting on credible intelligence, troops apprehended the suspect during routine security operations in Madagali town. He is currently in military custody for further investigation,” a military source said.
Meanwhile, in a separate but related operation, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai launched a series of intelligence-driven surveillance and precision airstrike missions targeting ISWAP elements around Cross Kauwa and Ali Sherifti in northern Borno State.
Sources said the operation commenced late on June 6 when Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms detected extensive terrorist activity at a suspected hideout in Cross Kauwa, where approximately 12 vehicles were observed concealed beneath dense vegetation and tree cover.
Further surveillance revealed the movement of suspected terrorists within the area, indicating the location was being used as a logistics hub and staging ground for operational activities.
Following confirmation of hostile activity and approval from theatre command authorities, strike aircraft executed precision attacks on the identified targets, destroying at least four vehicles and causing significant disruption to terrorist operations.
Real-time battle damage assessments indicated that the strikes triggered confusion among the insurgents, forcing survivors to flee in different directions while several mobility assets were destroyed.
Military sources said continued surveillance subsequently identified additional terrorist movements, prompting follow-up engagements aimed at preventing the fighters from regrouping or escaping.
At first light, air assets shifted focus to the Ali Sherifti area following intelligence reports of terrorist movements linked to planned attacks on nearby communities.
Using advanced surveillance systems, the aircraft tracked and identified a group of terrorists concealed beneath a tree before conducting a precision strike that neutralised five fighters.
A subsequent operation targeted four additional terrorists attempting to access a concealed vehicle. The strike eliminated all four fighters and destroyed the vehicle, further degrading the group’s operational mobility.
The military said additional terrorists were later observed attempting to regroup near the initial strike locations, while surveillance confirmed the presence of residual enemy elements and scattered vehicles within the broader Cross Kauwa axis.
According to military sources, the coordinated operations underscore the growing effectiveness of intelligence-led air and ground operations under Operation Hadin Kai, particularly in disrupting terrorist logistics networks, mobility capabilities and support structures.
The destruction of multiple vehicles is considered a significant setback for terrorist groups operating in the Lake Chad Basin, where such assets are critical for transporting fighters, conducting raids, moving supplies and launching attacks on civilian and military targets.
Military authorities reiterated their commitment to sustaining pressure on insurgent strongholds, dismantling terrorist support networks and denying criminal elements freedom of movement across the North-East.
They also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security in affected communities.
